Romantic alleyways and Black Forest flair in Freiburg

Germany's southernmost city, Freiburg, boasts historic buildings, green parks, its own castle hill and cozy restaurants. Freiburg im Breisgau is one of the most romantic cities in Germany, not least because of its well-preserved historical architecture. The former city entrances, the Martinstor on Kaiser-Josef-Straße and the Schwabentor in the pub district, have been preserved in exemplary condition. An alleyway covered with purple flowering wisteria in spring leads to the latter. Small streams run through Freiburg's old town. The gothic tower of Freiburg Cathedral cannot be overlooked. Urban life surrounded by greenery In Colombi Park near the train station, just a stone's throw from the cathedral, even wine grows. IntercityHotel Freiburg even grows wine. The traditional Kleiner Meyerhof restaurant, just a few steps away from the park, is well worth a stop for a wine tasting. A funicular railroad leads from the extensive city park to the Schlossberg, from where you can see far into the Black Forest.
