Germany's southernmost city Freiburg scores with historic buildings, green parks, its own castle hill and cozy restaurants. Freiburg im Breisgau is one of the most romantic cities in Germany, not least because of its well-preserved historic architecture. The former city entrances, the Martinstor on Kaiser-Josef-Strasse and the Schwabentor in the pub district, have been preserved in exemplary condition. An alley covered with purple flowering wisteria in spring leads toward the latter. Small brooks run through Freiburg's old town. The Gothic tower of Freiburg Cathedral cannot be overlooked. Urban life amidst greenery In Colombi Park near the train station, just a stone's throw from IntercityHotel Freiburg, even wine grows. For wine tasting, it's worth stopping at the traditional Kleiner Meyerhof restaurant just a few steps from the green space. From the widely laid out city park, a funicular leads up to the Schlossberg, from where you can look far into the Black Forest.
