Brewing traditions and top-level football: It must be Dortmund

The best of German football as well as international events in the Westfalenpark, famous beer-brewers and the finest culture – you’ll find it all in Dortmund in the Ruhr region.

Centuries before coal was raised in the Ruhr region, there was a generous attitude to beer-brewing licenses in the city of Dortmund. Dortmund's beer is one of the world's best, and one of its legacies is the avant-garde "Dortmunder U", a former brewery that is now used for innovative media art. Another former brewery site is now home to the classical-style Their-Galerie mall with its numerous shops. The city’s Pfefferkorn Restaurant enjoys cult status.

    Sights of the Westfalenpark

A highlight of any visit to Dortmund is a trip to the Signal Iduna Stadium in the Westfalenpark to see Borussia Dortmund take on another top Bundesliga club. The stadium also serves as a venue for national and international superstars of the entertainment business. To really savour the "green lung" of Dortmund on a city break, a visit to Germany’s biggest rose garden in the Westfalenpark is an absolute must. From the Steigenberger Hotel Dortmund, it’s just a short hop to the city's theatre, which is known for the quality of its productions.
