Leipzig – trendy city of trade fairs and culture

Leipzig offers its visitors a diverse cultural scene as well as entertainment districts for a night on the town, such as the Südvorstadt or Plagwitz.

The city center with the old town is Leipzig's heart. The Old and New Town Halls, the market square and the baroque Old Stock Exchange, not far from the Hotel Steigenberger Icon Grand Hotel Handelshof, are well worth a sightseeing trip. Two significant churches are among the top places of interest in Leipzig: The Thomaskirche, in which such prominence as Johann Sebastian Bach once worked, and the simple Nikolaikirche, which played a key role during the Peaceful Revolution of 1989. Friendly bars, cafés and restaurants are not only to be found in the city center. The so-called Karli road crosses the Südvorstadt, offering a wide range of cultural gems including clubs, boutiques, galleries, cinemas and other nightlife options. In the summer the clean lakes such as the Cospudener See are perfect for swimming, surfboarding, sailing or simply lazing about.
