TRAVEL TIPS FOR BERLIN
The Steigenberger Hotel Am Kanzleramt offers you the perfect starting point for a discovery tour through the German capital. In just a few minutes' walk you can already reach the Reichstag. As the capital, the Reichstag houses the German government, where you can also experience parliamentary sessions live. From the dome of the Reichstag you also have an incomparable panoramic view of the skyline of Berlin. A few meters further you can already see the Brandenburg Gate. This is considered the entrance to the boulevard "Unter den Linden" and stands as a sign of peace. Not far from the Brandenburg Gate you will find the Holocaust Memorial, which is considered a memorial to the murdered Jews of Europe. Here, 2711 stelae were erected on a field of about 19,000 square meters, which, depending on their location, form an undulating pattern and are thus intended to provoke reflection. South of the memorial, you will reach Checkpoint Charly. This was considered the most famous border crossing from the former GDR to the FRG. After unification in 1989, the wall was torn down here as well. However, you can still see the remains of the Berlin Wall here. At the end of a historic day in Berlin is a visit to the Museum Island. This belongs to the northern tip of the Spree Island in Berlin Mitte and has five museums. In addition, the Museum Island has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999 with your worldwide unique cultural and architectural ensembles.
