A historic day in Königswinter
The 321-meter high Drachenfels offers a view over the Rhine Valley that is just as unique as the Steigenberger Grandhotel Petersberg. To get there, you can either hike up Drachenfels or ride one of Germany's last cogwheel railroads. At the middle station of the Drachenfelsbahn, you can also visit Drachenburg Castle. Since 1986, Drachenburg Castle has been a listed building and was restored step by step until 2010. On the way back to the valley, you can make a stop at the Nibelungenhalle. The Nibelungen Hall was opened in 1913 on the 100th birthday of Richard Wagner and is one of the most important collections of paintings on the "Ring of the Nibelung". To conclude a day full of history in Königswinter, you can visit the Siebengebirgsmuseum of the city of Königswinter, which offers exhibitions on the landscape, history and Rhine romanticism in Königswinter.
